The Amarillo College Board of Regents is set to hold a special meeting on Monday, June 12th, to discuss and take possible action on “a contingency plan for the process of selecting and hiring a new President for Amarillo College should the need arise.”
The announcement of the meeting comes as Russell Lowery-Hart, the current Amarillo College President, was named as one of three finalists for chancellor of Austin Community College.
Lowery-Hart is expected to be in Austin for a series of “meet the candidate” forums later this month. Dr. Richard M. Rhodes, who has been chancellor of Austin Community College for the past 12 years, is set to retire in August.
Lowery-Hart had recently made headlines as AC won the Aspen Prize earlier this year, though some candidates for AC board at the time criticized the Aspen Institute as a “liberal think-tank.” He has been President of Amarillo College since 2014.
