Xcel Energy has restored power to most customers in the Lawrence Lake area.

As the area has experienced historic rainfall in recent weeks, Lawrence Lake overflowed. For safety reasons, power was shut off for many in the affected region. “That’s something we learned as children, that water and electricity don’t mix,” said Wes Reeves, said Xcel senior media relations representative Wes Reeves during a press conference last week.

However, while there were 608 customers without power as of yesterday, Reeves says that there are now only 169 who remain without electricity. Those still without power are “primarily residents of the Oakridge Apartments where standing water is still a safety concern,” said Reeves.

Disaster declarations issued by the City of Amarillo, Potter County, Randall County, and Governor Greg Abbott remain in effect.
