How did your neighborhood vote in the May 6th city election? You can find out now with our interactive set of maps at AmarilloVotes.online/maps.
Here are some of the highlights we’ve noticed:
Mayor Cole Stanley’s landslide is just as evidenced by the map as it was with his record-breaking vote total. Stanley secured an outright majority in all precincts except for Potter 421, 422, and 424. Of these, the only precinct he didn’t at least get first place in was 424, where he got 44 votes to Freda Powell’s 56.
In the Place 1 race, which is headed to a runoff on June 24th between Josh Craft and Dean Crump, each of the top two candidates won a share of precincts. While Josh Craft won most precincts, Crump pulled ahead in Potter 121, 123, 325, 422, and 425, as well as Randall 227 and 429. However, while Crump did come in first place in some precincts, he did not receive a majority in any. Josh Craft, meanwhile, earned majorities in Potter 323, 327, and 427, as well as Randall 324, 415, and 426.
In the Place 2 race, Don Tipps, the only candidate in the city election to receive more votes than Stanley, won a majority in every single precinct, including Potter 424, which Stanley lost. One thing to notice on our map is who earned second place. On our map, Don Tipps was given the color Green, Misty Vigil was given Purple, and Gabriel McHenry-Herrera was given orange. While the map is dominated by green, some shades of yellow-green (indicating McHenry-Herrera got second place) and blue-green (where Vigil got second place) stand out in some portions of Potter County.
In the Place 3 race, Tom Scherlen, who won the most narrow victory on election Day, still won in most precincts, though Katt Massey bested him in Potter 123, 421, 422, and 424. Massey only picked up one precinct in Randall. Precinct 317, which only reported 6 votes for Place 3, had 4 of those votes go to Massey, 2 to Scherlen, and 1 to John Adair.
In the Place 4 race, which is headed to a runoff between Les Simpson and Claudette Smith, Simpson won most precincts, though all candidates other than John Ingerson won some. In fact, the Place 4 race was the only city race where more than 2 candidates won precincts. Claudette Smith’s best precincts were Randall 317, Potter 223, and Potter 424. Hobert ‘Gunny’ Brown, meanwhile, picked up Potter County 422 and 426.
Voters will decide the final winner for Places 1 and 4 on Saturday, June 24th. Early voting begins Monday, June 12th. You can find our runoff voter guide at AmarilloVotes.online
