City of Amarillo Budget Workshops Delayed

The City of Amarillo budget workshops, which had been scheduled for the week of July 17th, have been delayed.

According to the city’s website, the workshops will be held on Tuesday, July 25th through Thursday, July 27th.

The city’s annual budget is crafted through the workshops. Though the city’s fiscal year begins on October 1st, the city usually drafts its budget well ahead of this date. One important deadline faced by the city during this process is August 21st. If the city budget requires a tax rate with a maintenance and operations portion that is more than 3.5% greater than that portion of the previous year's rate, the council is required to hold an election on the rate, which must be called by August 21st.

Amarillo City Council is also scheduled to hold a regular meeting on the afternoon of the workshops.
