ORIGINAL STORY FOLLOWS:
With less than one day before Amarillo City Council is set to start working on the city’s budget, no draft budget has been posted to the city website.
Typically, over the summer, City of Amarillo staff will work to produce a draft budget document. Then, starting in late July, Amarillo City Council will host a series of budget workshop meetings to scrutinize and propose changes to the budget. After these workshops, a finalized version, along with an associated tax rate, is voted on.
This year, the budget workshops are scheduled to kick off at 8:30 am on Tuesday, July 30th. However, as of 3:30 pm on Monday, July 29th, no draft budget has been published. The Amarillo Pioneer reached out to a member of Amarillo City Council who confirmed they had not yet received a draft.
After the first budget workshop meeting tomorrow, the city will hold additional budget workshop meetings on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. These meetings will all begin at 8:30 am with the exception of Friday’s meeting, which will begin at 9:30 am. (A special meeting to discuss the Charter Amendment election will be held ahead of the Friday meeting.) These meetings will all be held on the third floor of Amarillo City Hall.
The budget workshops are expected to be the first major test for City Manager Grayson Path, who officially took office today.
The Amarillo Pioneer attempted to contact the City of Amarillo’s Finance Department for comment. However, the phone number listed on the city’s website belongs to KAMR instead of the city.
