Austin-based Protect and Serve PAC, which has links to Amarillo Matters PAC, gave $7.5K to lottery winner and former Amarillo City Council Place 1 candidate Dean Crump.

Crump was defeated by firefighter Josh Craft on June 24th after the two advanced to a runoff following the May 6th election.

According to a finance report filed by Protect and Serve PAC on Monday, the group made two contributions to the Dean Crump Campaign during their filing period, which began on April 27th and ended on June 30th. The first contribution to Crump listed was for $3,500 and was made on May 5th, the day before the election. The other contribution, which was for $4,000, was made on May 20th, shortly after the election.

The group also gave $2,500 to the Amarillo Police Officers Assn PAC on June 5th. That group supported both Crump and Les Simpson during the runoff election. The group also spent money with both Look Ahead Strategies and Murphy Nasica & Associates, both of which have been utilized by Amarillo Matters PAC.

The group had previously also supported Don Tipps, Katt Massey, and Les Simpson, though none of those candidates were listed on the most recent report. (Tipps disavowed the group’s support.) While Massey did not receive support from Protect and Serve PAC, she did receive $25,000 from Amarillo Matters more than a month after she lost her election.

The group also had several donors from Amarillo, including Dean Morrison, Blaine Roberts, Wichard Ware, and William Ware. Donations from Amarillo to the group totaled $7,000.

While the group reported activity in Amarillo, the majority of their activity took place downstate. The group reported a total of $157,808.77 in contributions and $168,398.36 in expenses.
