Dell Technologies has provided new details about its collaboration with the City of Amarillo to develop an artificial intelligence “digital human.”
According to a press release, the digital human “is expected to be available to Amarillo residents in early 2024.” The project will utilize Dell PowerEdge R760xa servers and will be able to provide users with various “nonemergency information.”
The project was approved by Amarillo City Council in a unanimous vote last month. Shortly after the item was passed, City of Amarillo chief information officer Richard Gagnon spoke to the press about the project, where he noted that Amarillo is “the first city in the country” to take on a project like this.
Gagnon also acknowledged potential risks, including “hallucinations,” a technical term used by experts to describe instances where artificial intelligence produces responses not supported by data the model was trained on. Gagnon stated that the city is aspiring for its digital human to have a hallucination rate of “two or one and a half” percent.
The contract to develop the project will cost the city up to $582,948.89.
