State Rep. John Smithee has earned the backing of an influential law enforcement organization in his campaign for re-election to the Texas House of Representatives.
Smithee, an Amarillo attorney, was endorsed by the Amarillo Police Officers Association this week. The organization announced its support for Smithee, with the lawmaker being the group’s first legislative endorsement this cycle.
“Residents of District 86 are very fortunate to have a trusted and steady voice represent them in Austin,” APOA President Toby Hudson said in a statement. “The APOA proudly endorses John Smithee for state representative in 2024.”
In this year’s primary election, Smithee is facing a challenge from Canyon resident Jamie Haynes. Voters will decide this primary election on March 5.
