City Council to Canvass Proposition Results Friday

Amarillo City Council will hold a special meeting on Friday, November 15th, to formally canvass the election results for the city propositions.

As we have previously reported, of the five city propositions, the only one to pass was Proposition E. Proposition E amends the city charter by modifying the process for filling vacancies and introducing a resign-to-run requirement for members of Amarillo City Council.

These changes will go into effect immediately, as the council will later be required to pass enabling ordinances to formally adopt the charter amendment.

In addition to certifying the passage of Proposition E, the council will also certify the failure Propositions A through D. Proposition A was for the passage of the petitioned-for Sanctuary City for the Unborn ordinance, while the others, like Proposition E, were charter amendments.

The only items on the agenda for the meeting are call to order, consideration of an resolution to canvass the results, and adjournment. The meeting will begin at 3:00 pm and will take place on the third floor of Amarillo City Hall.
