President-elect Donald Trump should choose a Texan to lead the Department of Commerce. In particular, one Texan: Gov. Greg Abbott.
As Trump is going through the cabinet selection process, he has chosen some outside-the-box candidates to lead various agencies. While Abbott, himself, might qualify as an outside-the-box choice to lead the agency, his selection would make a ton of sense.
During his tenure as governor, Abbott has overseen the second largest economy in the United States, which has experienced tremendous economic growth. Texas’ economy is booming while other states are shrinking. Texas has figured out the formula to attracting numerous major corporations to the Lone Star State, while other states are failing to achieve the same kind of economic success.
Abbott knows a thing or two about what it takes to make an economy great. And as Trump works to deliver on his promise to Make America Great — and wealthy — Again, Abbott would be a perfect choice to help Trump deliver on that vision.
And for those worried about Abbott leaving, Texas would be in the very capable hands of Dan Patrick, our current lieutenant governor.
Abbott’s appointment makes too much sense not to make. It’s why we wholeheartedly encourage President Trump to select Greg Abbott for Commerce Secretary.
