AEDC Plans First Board Meeting Since Temporary Board Appointed

The Amarillo Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors will meet on December 2nd for their first meeting since mass resignations led to a temporary board being appointed by Amarillo City Council.

Following a public comment period and the election of board officers, the board will enter executive session to discuss legal matters, projects, and real estate transactions.

The board will then reconvene in open session to approve the minutes for recent meetings, vote on a $900,000 incentive agreement with AAA Cooper, and vote on a $162,450 sale of land to Pacific Cheese.

The final items on the agenda are “Quarterly Investment Report (Q1 2024 and Q2 2024),” “Staff Financial and Operational Updates,” and setting the date for the next board meeting, which is expected to take place on January 20th.

The board currently consists of Dipak Patel, Alex Fairly, Councilman Josh Craft, Councilman Don Tipps, and former Councilman Howard Smith. Amarillo City Council appointed Fairly, Craft, Tipps, and Smith during their previous council meeting following mass resignations in the wake of the RANGE controversy, which briefly left Patel as the only remaining board member.

The City of Amarillo is accepting applications to be appointed to replace the current temporary board. Applications can be filled out online on the city website, with the deadline being December 4th. According to the latest rolling agenda planner published by the city, the new appointments aren't expected to be filled during the upcoming December 10th regular council meeting, though they do plan to approve an updated version of the Articles of Incorporation at that point.

The AEDC Board of Directors meeting will begin at 11:00 am on December 2nd and will take place in the Ed Davis Conference Room on the ninth floor of the First Bank Southwest Tower.
