2024 Primary Election Endorsement Round-Up

With the March Republican primary quickly approaching, we’re taking a look at who has endorsed the candidates running for each office in Potter and Randall Counties. To conduct this experiment, we are surveying the candidates’ social media accounts and websites, as well as results for the candidates following quick Google searches.

For this survey, we are only including notable endorsements. In order to qualify as a notable endorsement, the endorsement has to meet one of the following criteria:

  • A current or former officeholder of any federally-elected office; or

  • Current officeholder of any elected office in Texas; or

  • Current elected statewide or countywide party officer; or

  • Former elected official who fits one of the above three categories and whose term concluded within the past ten years; or

  • An individual who is a former candidate for elected office whose most recent election occurred within the past year, and who received at least 15% of the vote; or

  • An individual who is so well-known to the public for their contributions to local government issues that they are widely recognized as being notable; or

  • A recognized local political group or civic organization

Please note: In this round-up, we are not including state legislative races, as the leading candidates for both Amarillo-area House seats have received many endorsements. We will do a separate round-up at a later date for these races to focus on just those individual contests.

It is also worth noting that for this round-up, we did not include individuals’ names who have donated to candidates, but who have not formally endorsed those candidates. While contributions are certainly expressions of support for candidates, we decided to focus solely on those who have actually put their names behind candidates in this election cycle.

Applying these criteria, the candidates for local office have received the following endorsements:
