Amarillo Mayor Cole Stanley will discuss potential options for this year’s State of the City Address during the City Council’s meeting next week.

According to an agenda posted to Amarillo.gov, the City Council has a planned discussion item during its work session on Tuesday focused on the State of the City Address. In an interview with The Amarillo Pioneer, Stanley said the discussion will focus on how this City Council will host its event. The Mayor stated that he hopes this year’s event will move away from being as focused on the accomplishments of the municipal government, and will center more on the community, as a whole.

“We’re just trying to put a spotlight on our community and what our community’s all about,” Stanley said. “And we’ll see where it aligns with our Council’s priorities. But it’s going to be a celebration of Amarillo.”

Stanley did not give specifics on what type of venue he had in mind for the event. However, he did mention that he would like to see live music included in this year’s festivities.

The exact date for the event has not yet been announced, as of this report.
