Amarillo City Council is set to consider $7.5 million in spending items during their upcoming regular meeting. Major spending items include a construction contract for renovations to the Amarillo Police Department building, a lease agreement for city vehicles, and disposal and hauling of sludge from the Hollywood Road Wastewater Treatment Facility.
The largest spending item on the agenda, item 9E, is a $3.4 million contract with Wiley Hicks, Jr., Inc for a remodel of the 4th and 5th floors of the Amarillo Police Department building. The 5th floor renovation will cost $1,598,900, while the 4th floor will cost $1,772,900. According to a memo provided by the city, the project will be partially funded with federal dollars, though the breakdown was not specified.
The next largest spending item is 8Z, a $2,003,664 fleet lease agreement with D&M Leasing. As the council discussed in a recent meeting, the city is looking at experimenting with leasing to help alleviate problems with the city’s aging fleet and supply chain issues with acquiring new vehicles. The item includes “a 36 month lease for (20) 2024 Dodge Durango 4WD 4D STX Police Package vehicles, a 48 month lease for (6) Dodge Ram 1500 4WD Crew Cab Tradesman, and 1 Dodge Charger 4 door SXT.” The monthly rate the city is expected to pay is $41,743.
All other spending items are less than $1 million, with the third largest being a $500,000 contract with Republic Service to dispose of an haul sludge from the Hollywood Road Wastewater Treatment Facility.
In addition to regular spending items, the council will vote on several other important fiscal items.
Item 9A is an acceptance of the city’s comprehensive financial report for the year ended September 30, 2023. Item 9C is the approval of amendments to project plans for ARPA funds.
Other major items on the agenda include a discussion of the upcoming State of the City address, a discussion of the city’s massage establishment ordinance, a discussion of proposed staff leadership changes, consideration of an ordinance banning pedestrians from standing, sitting, or lying at intersections, and making an appointment to fill a vacancy on the Library Advisory Board.
The meeting will begin at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, February 27th, and will be held in the Council Chamber on the third floor of Amarillo City Hall. The full agenda and agenda packet can be found at this link. Those wishing to address the council during the meeting are encouraged to sign up at this link.
