Amarillo City Council is set to consider $1.6 million in spending items during their May 14th regular meeting.
The largest spending item on the agenda is 10R, a $384,352 contract with Panhandle Steel Buildings. According to a memo provided by the city, the contract is “for critical and recommended repairs to the fire training tower and burn building.” The price tag is higher than the $200,370 originally budgeted for the project, the city will use a portion of the council’s $4.5 million working budget to makeup the difference.
That isn’t the only item on the agenda set to use working budget dollars. Item 10I is an agreement with Baker Tilly to consult on the City Charter and Governance and Ends policy review. That item comes with a price tag of $49,975. According to a post to the City Council Forum by Deputy City Manager Andrew Freeman, not including the Baker Tilly contract but including the fire training tower proposal, if all proposed items are proposed, the fund will have $755,357 remaining.
Another big focus of the agenda is concrete and cement. Item 10M is a $85,310.40 sacked cement supply agreement Cowtown Materials, while item 10O is a $314,601 contract with Thomas Redi-Mix Company for Redi-Mix Concrete.
Also on the agenda are discussions regarding updated Amarillo Police Department vehicle graphics and the new draft City Plan. The council will also consider an ordinance to name the Fire Marshall as the Fire Code Official for the city. Appointments to fill vacancies on the Library, Condemnation Appeals, and Animal Management and Welfare boards will also be made during the meeting.
The meeting will take place at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, May 14th on the third floor of Amarillo City Hall. The full agenda and agenda packet can be found at this link. Before the meeting, the council has two closed-door executive session meetings planned. The first, at 8:00 am, will see the council interview candidates for City Manager. The second, scheduled for 1:00 pm, will feature discussions on other projects.
