Delegates to the Republican Party of Texas Convention elected Abraham George as the party’s next chairman over the weekend.

George, a former county party chairman and businessman from Collin County, defeated five other opponents to win the nod from delegates to succeed Chairman Matt Rinaldi. George was able to secure a majority of votes from senate district delegations after district caucuses on Friday morning, but two other candidates also received enough votes to force a vote on the floor of the convention.

In the first round of voting on the floor, delegates were asked to choose between Abraham George, Dr. Dana Myers, and Weston Martinez. Martinez was eliminated after the first round and endorsed Myers, but this wasn’t enough to swing the race to Myers. George ended up winning a majority of the vote on the second round of floor voting.

In addition to George, voters also elected D’Rinda Randall to serve as the next vice chair of the party, succeeding Myers.
