Former City of Amarillo employee Amy Dixon, who pled guilty to conspiracy to embezzle from a federally funded program, was granted bond during an appearance before federal court on Monday.
According to court documents, Dixon had been in charge of distributing federal housing vouchers for the City of Amarillo. During her employment, Dixon created fictitious landlords in order to embezzle nearly half a million dollars from the program.
Dixon was granted a personal recognizance bond. According to filings, the court found that Dixon “is not likely to flee or pose a danger to any other person or the community if released.”
The terms of Dixon’s release note that she must surrender her passport to her probation officer, cannot travel more than 100 miles from Amarillo without prior approval, and must avoid all contact with former and current employees of the Community Development and Finance Departments of the City of Amarillo. She also may “not obtain employment where she is entrusted with financial responsibility, i.e. handling of money, without prior written approval of her supervising officer.”
Upon sentencing, Dixon could face a maximum of five years in federal prison.
Documents also note that she was taught how to prepare fraudulent payment vouchers by an unnamed co-conspirator, who is also a former city employee.
