During their July 9th regular meeting, Amarillo City Council is set to consider spending $1.3 million, adopting the 2024-2025 CDBG & HOME Investment Partnership Programs, and approving an amendment to the contract with incoming City Manager Grayson Path. They are also set to receive a certificate from the petitioning committee for the Sanctuary City for the Unborn ordinance formally requesting an election.
The largest spending item on the agenda, item 8H, is consideration of approval of a $568,042.05 contract with Dell Financial Services for the lease of IT network equipment for the Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport.
Other spending items include a renewing multi-factor authentication subscription, refurbishment of HVAC chiller units at the airport, procurement of traffic engineering services, purchase of sights and holster for Amarillo Police Department, purchase of a mini skid steer for Parks Maintenance, and reimbursement for Polk Street streetscape improvements. A chart summarizing all spending items is included at the end of this article.
In addition to typical spending items, the council will also consider adopting the 2024-2025 plan for allocating Community Development Block Grant and HOME Investment Partnership funds. Across the two programs, a total of $2,288,725 is set to be allocated.
For the CDBG program, $200,000 is set to be allocated for “demolition & clearance,” $238,619.85 is set to be allocated to various public services including Coming Home, Guyon Saunders Resource Center, Martha’s Home, and Maverick Boys & Girls Club, $486,000 is set to go to CARE Program items as well as rehabilitation support, $348,019.35 will be split between the city’s Parks and Planning departments, and $318,159.80 will be spent on administration.
For the HOME program, $139,585.20 is set to go to Amarillo Habitat for Humanity, $488,584.20 is set to go to tenant-based rental assistance, and $69,792.60 will be spent on administration.
An amendment to the employment contract with incoming City Manager Grayson Path is also on the agenda. The amendment will move his start date forward from August 12 to July 29th. You can read our full story on that topic at this link.
The meeting is set to conclude with the council formally receiving a request from the petitioning committee for the Sanctuary City for the Unborn ordinance to call an election on the matter. Though the request is set to be formally received during the meeting, the item does not appear to be an action item, meaning that the election might not be called until a future council meeting. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, July 9th. The meeting will take place on the third floor of Amarillo City Hall. The full agenda and agenda packet can be downloaded at this link.
