A: I want to give back to the community I cherish and provide the leadership that will be required as our community moves into the future.
Q: If elected, what will be your top three priorities in office?
A: 1) provide fiduciary leadership in the stewardship of the county resources: tax revenue, facilities, equipment, personnel & long term planning.
2) facilitate the resources needed for the Sheriff's department to provide ample law enforcement for quick response time, safe neighborhoods and travel.
3) recruit business investment within a planned strategy to further develop a commercial tax base that will lesson the tax pressure on residential property in the county.
Q: What is an issue you believe has gone overlooked in your race and how will you address it if elected?
A: The growth rate of Randall County is only going to increase in the years ahead. We must provide leadership in that growth in the areas of conservative cultural influence, strategic real estate development, and increasing our non-residential and non-agricultural tax base.
Q: Why are you the best candidate for voters to support for this position?
A: I moved to Canyon with my family 23 years ago by personal choice. My children attended and graduated from Canyon ISD. They accessed classes from Amarillo College and WTAMU. My grandchildren live here. I have taken classes at WT and am an alumni association member. This is the best community experience I have had anywhere. The people here are my people. I don't plan on retiring any time soon but when I do, I will retire here. I am a self-employed rancher (www.GilesAngus.com) and a licensed real estate agent with Clift Land Brokers. Previously, I have served on the Federal Land Bank Board (chairman) and was a board of director with U.S. Premium Beef. I attend/support Hillside Christian Church and the Arena of Life Church. I think we need to recognize the driving forces in our economy. When we look at $sales we must acknowledge the cattle and beef industry as #1 force in the Panhandle but as we focus deeper into Precinct #1, the education industry plays a huge factor as far as employment and local turnover of dollars spent. We are also blessed with manufacturing and distribution which includes logistics. We must intensify the diversity of businesses we entice to come here in the future.
