Masters Degree Middle Tennessee State University

A: Director of Broadcast Engineering/Associate Lecturer, Department of Communication, West Texas A&M University

Q: If you are a business owner, please list the business or businesses that you own.

A: I have been a business owner in the past. I still do some consulting work and have a classic rock band that operates like a business (but is really just a hobby.)

Q: Please list any civic boards or commissions (non-profit, government, union, political, etc.) on which you have served as a board member or equivalent.

A: -I have served as City Commissioner Place 5 for the last 2 years

-I serve as an Elder for Hillside Christian Church Canyon

-I serve on the board for Texans for Israel

-I serve on the advisory board for the AJ Swope Memorial Plaza

Q: If your campaign has any online campaign resources where voters can learn more about you, such as social media accounts or a website, please list them below.

A: https://www.facebook.com/Randy-Ray-City-Commissioner-Place-5-105075705017209

Q: Why did you decide to run for this office in 2021?

A: It’s simple: I love the city of Canyon and I want to give back.  My family and I have been here for 20 years. My wife and I work in Canyon, my children went to school in Canyon. This community is home to us. I want to help take care of it.

Q: If elected, what will be your top three priorities in office?

A: 1. Canyon is growing. One of my priorities as city commissioner was, and will be, to continue to foster growth at a pace that is good for our community and not taxing on our infrastructure.

2. The Canyon staff, the mayor and the commission have been working hard on a downtown revitalization program that I am really excited about. We want to make Canyon Texas one of the main destinations in the Panhandle.

3. One of the main concerns we have as a city is water. We need to look forward and secure water sources so that future generations can thrive in Canyon.

Q: In what cases would you support efforts to raise property taxes? Please explain.

A: I am NOT a proponent of higher taxes. The only way I will support higher taxes is out of necessity. And the hard truth is sometimes it is necessary. As City Commissioner, I have voted, and will vote for minimal tax increases and only when necessary.

Q: What is an issue you believe has gone overlooked in your race and how will you address it if elected?

A: One of my concerns has been city infrastructure. As we continue to grow, I want to make sure our utilities, our roads and our city services are sustainable.

Q: Why are you the best candidate for voters to support for this position?

A: I have lived in Canyon for 20 years. I love Canyon. I also have years of administration experience that I want to continue to share with my community. I am also a communicator. I want to help the city of Canyon develop their communication skills so they can better serve our community.
