The Amarillo City Council will officially weigh in on the proposed "Trap-Neuter-Return" policy, during Tuesday's regularly scheduled meeting.
The TNR policy, which is supported by many animal advocacy groups, has been enacted in other cities. Alley Cat Allies, a cat advocacy group, supports the policy. In information on their website, ACA says that TNR "saves cats' lives." Alley Cat Allies also says that TNR is good for everyone in the community.
"Everyone wins when a TNR program is implemented. Everything changes for the better, for the cats and for the community." alleycats.org says, "Adult cats — spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and eartipped — are returned to the colony to live out their lives in their outdoor home and become good neighbors."
During last week's City Council meeting, the Council approved the first reading of the ordinance, by a 4-0-1 vote. Councilmember Mark Nair abstained from the vote.
The Council will now take on the final reading of the policy. If the policy passes the Council, tonight, it will become a City ordinance.
Also on the agenda for tonight's meeting, the City Council will canvass the results of the November 8th municipal bond election. The Council will also consider accepting Interim City Manager Terry L. Childers' resignation, and will consider replacements for Childers.
The meeting of the Amarillo City Council will be held at Amarillo City Hall (509 SE 7th Ave.) The meeting's work session will begin at 3pm, and the meeting will begin at 5pm.
