Ginger Nelson and Howard Smith both made their candidacies official today, by filing the necessary paperwork to run for Amarillo City Council.
Nelson, a local attorney, filed her paperwork to run for Mayor of Amarillo. Incumbent Paul Harpole announced yesterday that is not seeking re-election to the seat. Nelson has drawn two announced opponents, Jeremy Bryant and Renea Dauntes, but neither candidate has filed their application.
Howard Smith, a realtor, also filed his paperwork today to seek the office of Amarillo City Council Place 4. Smith is the only announced candidate for the seat, which is currently held by Mark Nair. Nair has not yet stated whether he will seek re-election in May.
James Schenck, a local insurance provider, has announced his intention to run for Amarillo City Council Place 2, but has not yet filed his paperwork.
Prospective candidates can file applications from now until February 17th.
