The Amarillo College Board of Regents approved joining the new East Gateway Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone, last night.
After some discussion among the regents of the board, AC approved joining the TIRZ zone at 100 percent for 30 years. The vote was unanimous in favor of the resolution.
Interim city manager Bob Cowell and Councilmember Elisha Demerson were present for the vote. Potter County Commissioner Mercy Murguia was also present, and addressed the board, prior to the vote. Murguia requested that the board approve the agenda item.
According to Cowell, Amarillo College's approval to join the TIRZ zone makes Amarillo College is the last remaining eligible tax entity to join.
