AC Regents Postpone TIRZ Vote

Amarillo College Regents decided to postpone a vote on the "East Gateway" Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone, during their meeting last night.

Interim City Manager Terry Childers and Deputy City Manager Bob Cowell were at the meeting of the Board of Regents, last night, promoting the new TIRZ Zone. According to Childers, each taxing entity in the City, other than the Amarillo Independent School District, is allowed to participate in the TIRZ Zone.

Regent Anette Carlisle expressed support for the TIRZ Zone, saying that it is a necessary investment. Regent Patrick Miller asked multiple questions of Mr. Cowell, including questions regarding wording of the proposal.

Following Childers and Cowell's departure, Board Chairman Michele Fortunato and the Regents decided to postpone a vote of the TIRZ Board until their next meeting.

We will bring you more information about the TIRZ progress, as it becomes available.
