Matthew Dowd, an Austin television commentator, is considering challenging Ted Cruz for his U.S. Senate seat, in 2018.
“I don’t know what I will do," Dowd said to the Texas Tribune. "But I am giving it some thought, and I appreciate the interest of folks.”
Dowd said that both Republicans and Democrats have approached him about challenging Cruz. Dowd is reportedly considering running as an independent in a challenge to Cruz.
Dowd joins Michael McCaul, a Dallas Republican, and Beto O'Rourke, an El Paso Democrat, as potential challengers to Cruz.
