Ryan Patrick, son of Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, has been nominated to be the next U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Texas.
According to the Texas Tribune, Patrick, a former state district judge, has been nominated by President Donald Trump to take the post. If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Patrick would work for a constituency of about 8.3 million people in Houston, Galveston and Corpus Christi.
Patrick is nominated to succeed Abe Martinez in the role. Martinez has served as the acting U.S. attorney, following Trump's request for resignations from several top officials. Kenneth Magidson, a 2011 appointee by President Barack Obama, had previously served in the role.
Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn both praised the nominations, following Trump's announcement, and called upon the Senate to confirm Patrick and Joseph Brown, the Trump nominee to fill the vacancy in the Eastern District of Texas.
Brown and Patrick now await confirmation by the Senate. The Senate is also considering confirming John F. Bash and Erin Angela Nealy Cox to fill other current vacancies in Texas.
