President Donald Trump has nominated former United States Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison to the role of the next NATO Ambassador, according to Politico.
Hutchison served in the United States Senate for Texas from 1993 until 2013. Hutchison oversaw several initiatives by the party in the Senate and was the vice chair of the Senate Republican Conference from 2001 until 2007. Hutchison also served as Treasurer of Texas from 1991 until 1993 under Governor Ann Richards.
In 2010, Hutchison ran for the Republican nomination for governor against incumbent Rick Perry. Perry won the nomination over Hutchison, 51 percent to 30 percent. Challenger Debra Medina picked up the remaining 19 percent.
As the President's nominee for the role, Hutchison will now await a vote from the United States Senate on her appointment.
