"Their continued support and encouragement earned Scott and Gina Vaughan Family of the Year honors during Family Weekend activities Oct. 10-12 at West Texas A&M University.
The event celebrated parents and their role in helping make the most of the University experience for their students. Various activities were planned, and students were encouraged to nominate their parents for Family of the Year honors. The Vaughan family of Corpus Christi was selected from a field of 20 family nominees. All of the nominees were recognized at a special morning reception Saturday, Nov. 10, and the winning family was announced during halftime of the Buffs vs. Western New Mexico game that afternoon.
In his nomination letter, Dillon Vaughan, son of Scott and Gina Vaughan, wrote, “My entire life my parents have supported my brother and me in the many sports that we played in junior high, high school and college. They spent a lot of time and money traveling to ALL of our games and being one of the biggest WTAMU supporters throughout our time here with the Buffaloes. One if not both of my parents have attended every home and away game in the last nine years. This season being my last, I would love for my parents to be honored for their continuous love and support for me and this school.”
Dillon is the second Vaughan to play for the Buffs football team. His brother, Dustin, is a former player, and Dillon wrote, “I truly hope they are selected for this award. It would just be a small way that Dustin and I could show my parents that we recognized all that they have given us and that we deeply appreciate it. Without their love, support, guidance and encouragement, neither my brother nor I would be the successful men we are today.”
