Authorities were on scene at a wreck involving a van and a house near Interstate 40 in Amarillo on Monday.
According to the Amarillo Fire Department, units were dispatched to I-40 and Crockett at 12:33pm on Monday on a vehicle vs. building accident. A van was found inside of a residential structure at 1618 South Travis. Crews began searching the area and found three adult patients, one driver, and two occupants of the home. Four children were also inside of the home and were uninjured. The driver had to be extricated from the van while an injured resident was rescued by fire crews. The patient had been pinned under debris and a dislodged wall.
All three patients were listed as non-critical, AFD reports.
Witnesses told authorities that the van had veered from the middle westbound lane of I-40, leaving the highway, and crossing the westbound access road before impacting the residence.
Due to structure damage and safety concerns, the structure was deemed unsafe by Building Safety and AFD. The decision was then made to pull the damaged section of the home to the ground.
