Christmas Shopping Season Begins Today

Excited shoppers lined up outside of local stores on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, hoping to pick up the best deals of the year.

Christmas shopping officially begins today, as Black Friday kicks off in Amarillo. A variety of stores in the area have joined in on the action, offering discounts of all kinds. Whether it be clothing stores, electronics stores, or even book stores, Christmas shoppers eagerly awaited the doors of Christmas shopping to open this morning.

At Best Buy, customers waited outside in long lines on Thursday afternoon, hoping to pick up big discounts on new 4K televisions or computers. Not too far away, customers also packed out the parking lot of the Wal-Mart on Coulter Street.

One customer told The Amarillo Pioneer that she decided to venture out to Wal-Mart to see if she could get a jump on Christmas shopping.

"I'm going to Wal-Mart," the customer said. "Maybe I can get a few Christmas presents for my family."

Others were also searching for hot deals for themselves. Gamers packed all GameStop locations in Amarillo, searching for price cuts on the new big titles in gaming, such as, "Call of Duty WWII" and "Assassin's Creed: Origins."

Most stores have Black Friday sales lasting through the end of the weekend and into Cyber Monday.
