Potter Deputies Find Drugs, Illegal Weapon During Traffic Stop

Deputies at the Potter County Sheriff's Office found drugs during a recent traffic stop.

According to information released by the Sheriff's Office, on Tuesday, deputies pulled over a Chevrolet Avalanche on Interstate 40 at Bushland for a defective tail light. The driver was identified as 47-year-old Donnie Wayne Yingling, Jr. from Walnut Grove, California.

As officers approached the car during the traffic stop, the smell of marijuana was detected. Yingling admitted to officers that he had a large amount of marijuana inside the vehicle.

Deputies searched the vehicle and found 35 pounds of marijuana, along with a loaded illegal shotgun, 2 bags of heroin, and 1 bag of methamphetamine. Yingling was also found to have four separate felony warrants out of California on charges of drugs and weapons.

Yingling was booked into the Potter County Detention Center on six felony counts and four warrants.
