The Amarillo metropolitan area has the lowest unemployment rate in the state, according to new information from the Texas Workforce Commission.
Unemployment numbers released on Friday show that Amarillo has the lowest unemployment rate in the state at 2.6 percent. The number is slightly up from October's 2.4 percent, but down from the 4.2 percent who were unemployed in November of 2016.
The numbers in Amarillo narrowly edge out Austin-Round Rock for the title of the lowest rate in the state. The unemployment numbers in Austin-Round Rock are currently sitting at 2.7 percent, up from 2.6 percent earlier this year.
Texas' highest unemployment numbers come from Beaumont-Port Arthur. Unemployment in that area is 6.5 percent.
Numbers released today show Texas currently hitting a record low 3.8 percent unemployment. That number is consistent with the national average 3.9 unemployment rate nationwide. The national rate is down from 4.4 percent unemployment in November of 2016.
