Unemployment numbers released by the Texas Workforce Commission show rates remained nearly steady in Amarillo for the month of October.
According to the TWC, unemployment in Amarillo for the month of October 2018 was about 2.5 percent. This number is slightly down from the month prior, with September posting a 2.7 percent unemployment, and is nearly even with October 2017’s rate of 2.6 percent. However, in October 2018, the civilian labor force grew over 2017 and September 2018, meaning more people were in the market than in either of those two previous months.
Meanwhile, for Amarillo’s neighbor to the south of the Panhandle, Lubbock, unemployment rates remained unchanged from October 2017 to October 2018, at 2.7 percent.
These numbers come as Texas recorded an unemployment rate of 3.5 percent. That rate is in the line with the rest of the country.
