Two Amarillo Independent School District students have earned statewide visual art honors.
Karime Gomez, of Palo Duro High School, and Brooklyn Kennedy, of Amarillo High School, both received the Gold Seal Award from the Texas Art Education Association. Each year, the award is only given to 150 pieces of artwork statewide and is considered the highest state honor for visual art students.
In addition to submitting the piece, students are required to write about their inspiration for the artwork.
Both students were chosen as victors from the over 36,000 pieces submitted. The students' artwork will now be on display at various statewide venues through next November.
