APD Informs Public Regarding False News Report

The Amarillo Police Department is warning local residents regarding a false news story that is floating around social media.

According to the report from APD, a report is floating around social media that says that a "serial rapist" may be on the loose in Amarillo. According to APD, the post first appeared in 2012, and has since made a comeback.

Amarillo Police are warning residents not to believe the story.

"There is no validity to this post and there is no danger to public." APD said through a press release on Nixle. "If there is some type of criminal activity that warrants a public notification, we will use every means available to notify the public."

APD says that specifically, their Nixle service is utilized to notify local residents regarding criminal acts and any descriptions. Reports will also be posted to the Amarillo Police Department Facebook and Twitter accounts.
