APD Warns Residents Against Scams

The Amarillo Police Department is issuing a scam alert for local residents.

APD is reporting that scams have been occurring across the area, including scams involving IRS impersonators, Xcel Energy impersonators, Microsoft impersonators, Amarillo Police impersonators, sheriff impersonators and fake Craigslist buyers.

APD is also reminding residents never to wire money or give debit/credit card information to any unverified source. You are also warned against providing any personal information to an unverified source.

Within the last month, sixteen reports have been filed with the APD involving these types of scams. The total estimated monetary loss among these reports is $183,538.12

If you have been the victim of a scam you can go to the Amarillo Police Department's website (police.amarillo.gov) to report it.
