APD Warns Residents of Coronavirus Scams

Amarillo Police are warning residents to be vigilant regarding coronavirus scams.

According to APD, officers have received a few calls about scammers contacting individuals regarding the coronavirus pandemic. In a release on APD’s website, the Department asked residents to practice precautions if contacted by a scammer.

“Truly, there are some evil people out there,” APD said in the release. “Please remember to guard your identity and self. Ask questions. Never give money before you get a product. Ask someone that you trust, don’t take a stranger’s word for it, especially over the phone or internet, and especially if you’ve never met them. Over the next few days, weeks, and months, the scammers will be changing their tactics and trying their best to get what they can from you. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, IT IS!”
