On June 22nd at 6:35 AM, APD officers were called to the area of Amarillo Boulevard West and North Travis Street on a male lying on the side of the road. Officers located a middle aged white male lying on the south side of the Boulevard in the grass median. The male was deceased and it appears that he had been struck by a vehicle. There are no suspects or leads at this point in the investigation.
APD has identified the victim of the hit and run accident this morning as Lewis Lee Helfenbein Jr, a 57 year old male of Amarillo. The accident is still under investigation. Judge Richard Herman has requested an autopsy that will be performed tomorrow.
