Texas Supreme Court Rejects Campaign Finance Challenge

The Texas Supreme Court unanimously rejected a challenge to the state's campaign finance laws last week.

The court made its ruling in the King Street Patriots v. Texas Democratic Party case. In a unanimous decision, the Court upheld Texas' ban on direct corporate contributions to campaigns. The Court also upheld requirements that campaigns report direct contributions and expenditures and ruled that private groups can sue over alleged violations.

Justice Eva Guzman delivered the opinion of the Court and Justice John Devine filed a concurring opinion.
