Former Texas Governor Rick Perry is reportedly under consideration to become the next U.S. Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
Bloomberg News reported today that after President Donald Trump elevated Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly to take Reince Priebus' role as White House Chief of Staff, Perry has entered into the conversation as a potential replacement for Kelly. Perry's name has surfaced after President Trump named Perry to his inner circle of national security advisers, according to the Texas Tribune.
Politico also reported that Perry is not the only Texan under consideration for the job. Congressman Michael McCaul (R-Dallas) is reportedly being considered to succeed Kelly, as well. McCaul has previously been called a potential challenger to U.S. Senator Ted Cruz in the 2018 Republican primary election.
There is no clear indication yet as to when Trump plans to announce Kelly's successor.
