The first state champion Lubbock Estacado football team has returned for the school's 50th anniversary.
Lubbock Estacado High School became the first integrated high school in Lubbock in 1968. That same year, the school's football team won the state championship, according to KCBD. Members of the Estacado's original championship team were in attendance at the school's 50th anniversary celebration today.
The former head coach of the team, Jimmie Keeling, was in attendance, along with several members of the team. The team reflected on the championship win in 1968 and spoke about the historical significance of the occasion.
Today's event was the first in a series of events this week commemorating the school's 50th anniversary.
