Proceeds from the upcoming Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez fight will benefit hurricane relief efforts, according to CBS Sports.
It was announced at the fight's press conference today that a portion of the proceeds from the upcoming fight between Golovkin and Alvarez will benefit relief programs from Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma. The announcement was met with applause as both fighters were thanked for being a part of recovery efforts.
No mention was made as to what charity the fight's proceeds will be donated.
On Saturday, September 16th, Gennady Golovkin (37-0) will face Canelo Avalrez (49-1) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Golovkin comes into the fight following the end of his impressive 33 fight knockout record. Alvarez enters with 49 wins and 1 loss, which was delivered by Floyd Mayweather.
The pay-per-view will begin at 7pm on Saturday.
