Retired Amarillo Teacher Named "Hero for Texas Children" by SBOE

A retired Amarillo teacher has been a named a "Hero for Texas Children" by the State Board of Education.

Evelyn Lyles, a retired Amarillo ISD teacher, was honored in a ceremony Friday in Austin. Lyles is a frequent volunteer at Amarillo school campuses and is particularly involved with students and families in the Refugee Resettlement Program.

Lyles was one of fifteen people honored by the SBOE. Each district of Texas had one person who was recognized.

Evelyn Lyles was presented with a certificate, a copy of the SBOE resolution in her honor and photographs commemorating the ceremony. Lyles' name will also be engraved into a plaque in Austin.
