Amarillo's Whittier Elementary School has been named a National Blue Ribbon School.
U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos announced today that Whittier Elementary has been named a National Blue Ribbon school. Whittier Elementary was selected after being one of twenty-six schools named as a finalist by the Texas Education Agency.
According to information from the Education Department, blue ribbon schools are recognized for being able to "achieve very high learning standards or make notable improvements in closing achievement gaps."
Whittier is one of 342 schools honored with the award this year.
