Tom Wakely, a Democrat currently running for governor of Texas, will be in Amarillo this month.
It was announced that Wakely will be making a stop in Amarillo as he campaigns for the Democratic nomination for governor. Calling for "people before profit," Wakely is billing himself as "the only person who can beat Greg Abbott."
According to the Austin-American Statesman, Wakely runs a San Antonio hospice for veterans. He has previously held one elected position, a spot on the Lake Geneva, Wisconsin school board. Wakely previously ran for U.S. Congress against incumbent Lamar Smith (R-San Antonio), losing 57 percent to 36 percent.
Wakely will be in Amarillo on Thursday, September 21st at Abuelo's (I-27 and 45th Avenue).
