Texan Fighting for World Heavyweight Belt This Weekend

A Texas-based heavyweight brawler will be taking his shot at the world heavyweight crown this weekend.

On Saturday, Derrick Lewis will fight for the UFC Heavyweight Championship at UFC 230 in New York City. Lewis, a fighter based out of Houston, will take on newly-minted champion Daniel Cormier, in Cormier’s first title defense. Cormier won the belt in July, after knocking out then-champion Stipe Miocic.

Compiling a record of 21-5, Lewis has been approaching a title shot throughout 2018, picking up a notable win in July over number one contender Francis Ngannou. Lewis then set himself up for a title shot at UFC 229, scoring a late knockout over Alexander Volkov. Lewis then cut a promo following the fight, which gained the fighter notoriety on social media.

UFC 230 will take place Saturday night on pay-per-view.
