U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Clarendon) joined a unanimous Republican caucus in voting against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s selection of impeachment managers for the upcoming impeachment trial against President Donald Trump.
Thornberry and House Republicans voted unsuccessfully to defeat the measure on Wednesday, with House Democrats and independents pushing the vote to a 228-193 passage. One Democrat, Rep. Collin Peterson (D-Minnesota), was the sole non-Republican vote against the measure.
The vote approved sending the articles of impeachment against Trump to the Senate and also authorized Speaker Pelosi’s impeachment manager appointments. Pelosi and the House signed off on Reps. Adam Schiff (D-California), Jerry Nadler (D-New York), Zoe Lofgrin (D-California), Hakeem Jeffries (D-New York), Val Demings (D-Florida), and Jason Crow (D-Colorado) to present the impeachment case to the Senate.
It is widely expected that the Senate trial will kick off next week.
