A former-West Texas based judge and current Texas Supreme Court Justice is planning to retire, according to reports.
Judge Phil Johnson is planning to retire, according to an article from the Texas Tribune. Johnson, a former Lubbock attorney who served on the 7th Court of Appeals in Amarillo, was appointed as a Supreme Court Justice by Governor Rick Perry in 2005. A Republican, Johnson’s term was set to expire in 2020.
If Johnson retires, Governor Greg Abbott will be tasked with appointing his replacement.
