The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program at Amarillo College invites anyone with an interest in OTA-related careers to learn more at an Open House from 2:45 to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 19 at AC’s West Campus.
The come-and-go event will take place in the Allied Health Building, Room 161, and visitors will have the opportunity to meet AC faculty and students, tour facilities, and learn about careers in the field and the local job market.
Additionally, academic advisers and financial aid personnel from AC will be on hand to explain College processes and assist anyone wishing to apply for financial aid or enroll at AC.
“We invite everyone to attend our Open House who has an interest in our OTA program, as well as anyone who is interested in a career in healthcare but is undecided about which degree they want to pursue,” Dr. Sheree Talkington, director of the OTA program, said.
“Everyone will get a first-hand look at our classrooms and find out from both students and teachers what exactly being in the OTA program at AC entails.”
Occupational therapy assistants work under the supervision of registered occupational therapists and help people of all ages who have difficulty performing work and daily living activities due to illness, injury or disability.
AC graduates typically become eligible to work in hospitals, schools, outpatient clinics, nursing homes, rehabilitation facilities, mental health facilities, home health agencies, assisted living centers, and community programs.
The OTA program at Amarillo College is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy. For more information, please contact Dr. Talkington at (806) 354-6079.
