Another possible candidate may be joining the race for the Amarillo City Council.
Tom Warren II, owner of Tom Warren Vintage Trucks and publisher of The Amarillo Pioneer, has taken a step toward running for a seat on the Amarillo City Council. On Friday, the candidate filed a treasurer appointment, indicating he is running and will be able to start raising money for the campaign. This is a required step for candidates who are running or planning to run in order to raise funds. Filing a treasurer appointment does not guarantee a candidate a place on the ballot.
Warren has not yet announced which position he is running for. This move puts him in a small but growing list of people running for places on the council. Hayden Pedigo and Steven Rosas are running for seats on the City Council, while incumbent Mayor Ginger Nelson and incumbent Councilmember Howard Smith are running for reelection.
Warren previously ran against Eddy Sauer for City Council Place 3 in 2017, though it is not clear at this point if he will be running for that place in this cycle. Warren was also one of five finalists to replace Brian Eades on the Amarillo City Council in 2016, although Councilmembers eventually voted 3-1 to select Lisa Blake for the position.
All council seats, including mayor, will be elected in May of next year. Candidates can file treasurer appointments at any time. Filing for places on the ballot will run for about a month in January and February.
